Matador’s community is built around travel blogs and social media. Both of these elements fall under the broader, important-to-understand term, new media.

New media describes today’s use of digital technology to create, edit, and publish media – anything from photographs to text to video – in real time over the internet.

This is opposed to traditional media, which relies on print and analog models of broadcast such as radio, television, newspapers, and magazines.

Over the last decade, new media has created (and continues to create) a dramatic shift in the speed, range, and ability to personally participate in media. This shift has been so profound, so fast, that it’s changed both the business side of the media industry as well as the cultural role of media in society.

As an independent media company, Matador continues each day to challenge and learn from the ever-evolving media landscape, staying focused on what’s downstream (example: the progression towards mobile technology) while always appreciating the role of books, feature films, radio shows, and other traditional media forms.
