I did an <a href="http://www.icelandictravelmarket.is/Excursions/" rel="nofollow">Icelandic Excursion<a> for pretty cheap. It was seriously one of the most beautiful countries and best trip I've had in my life. Traveling to Iceland is meant more for site seers. You don't go for the club scene haha. Its all about the nature and terrains. SO GORGEOUS!

Iceland's soils are agriculturally disadvantaged. They have to import things like wheat and other food products, also timber (since Iceland has virtually no trees), and machinery. They have lots of seafood, of course! =)

I have always heard a lot of good feedbacks for those people who had been in Iceland.
Unfortunately, I have been NOT there. How I'd love to go there. Reading you article really encourages me more. Hope to visit that place someday.

By the way, awesome photos!

Having spent 12 days in Iceland this past summer, I do agree with most of your tips, however, I would have go against going to the Blue Lagoon, if you are not going to Lake Myvatn and their thermal pool (which is cheaper and just as interesting) I would recommend the Blue Lagoon, it is really a unique experience.

Also, a huge way to save money is to get rooms with shared bathrooms. That was a huge difference in room prices.

Go to Iceland now while the exchange rate is still good and they haven't picked up the Euro. The whole country is on sale.

Really?? I thought I remembered seeing a show where they said Iceland is totally self-sufficient. And I was pretty sure they were in a grocerey story too showing all the items were made in Iceland. Or, more likely, my memory is just that bad.

Thanks for the hints. I'd love to go to Iceland, and doing stuff like this will make it much easier.

Good advice, although I would point out that Iceland has to import almost all of it's grocery items and as a result self-catering is not as cheap as you'd think. From what I've found food in Iceland is basically a can't-win proposition- you're going to pay a lot no matter what.

I would also add that if you're looking to do much souvenir shopping there is an absolutely terrific and affordable wool outlet in Vik with excellent sweaters, mittens, just about anything you can think of.
