It's a great pic because a) it was taken by a good underwater photographer who has nothing to do with the Flickr user that is passing the photo off as its own, and b) it was taken in the warm, clear waters of Guadalupe Island, Mexico—NOT off South Africa.

Hermanus Backpackers is infringing on the copyright of the photographer, and this article is not helping matters.

I think its great to get up close to these animals. Just as long as you don't dare to blame them when they take your arm off.

Those are great pics, I especially like the top one where it looks like it is smiling. Shark diving really is awesome fun. I would seriously recommend it to anyone who is keen. If you are interested this Gansbaai Bed and Breakfast offers great accommodation/shark diving packages.

My husband and I just did this when we were in Cape Town a few weeks ago.....
okay actually, my husband did it. I was supposed to, but instead spent my 4 hours on the boat hanging off the side getting violently ill (along with several other people). I took dramamine and have never gotten seasick before so it was a complete surprise. Luckily, they say the best viewing is actually from above water so while I didn't get to come "face to face" with the shark like my husband did, I still saw plenty of action from above.

Great. I had always thought shark-watching like this would be kinda terrifying and would also necessitate scuba diving skills I don't have. You've managed to assuage both those fears and I'm happy to pop it back on my holiday wish list. Thank you - now I just need to convince my girlfriend ;)

I like watching them on TV, where there's a screen, land, radio waves, and time separating us. Good on anyone getting in the water with them!

Wow, Carly, very cool. Sharks are my #1 fear, so I'm not sure if I could confront them like this. But your account gives me hope.
