Just as an update to this article, I've been working on a new edition of the Bradt Guide to Palestine (http://www.bradt-travelguides.com/) and some of the research I've been doing has led to a new website listing community-run and ecotourism guesthouses, hostels and small hotels in Palestine. See http://palestineguesthouse.com/ for more.

As a quick addition to some of the accommodation suggestions in this article, I also just received an email about 'Palestine's first B&B', a family-run enterprise just outside Ramallah. Contact details are given on the second page of this pdf: http://www.ramallahquakers.org/pdfs/3-Places%20to%20stay%20for%20the%20Centenial%20Week--March%202010.pdf

Hi Imogen - thanks for the comment. I'm sure you've got existing contacts who've travelled in the West Bank, but feel free to get in touch with any questions via my Matador profile http://matadortravel.com/travel-community/sarahirving or website.

Jenny - thanks for the feedback and glad you liked the article. To clarify on Nablus' checkpoints - yes many of them have been formally relaxed over the last couple of years, but I'd still suggest that travellers hoping to visit the city check with local sources before embarking on long journeys, as I've known Huwarra and some of the other checkpoints be closed within the last year, causing long waits. They're often also selectively open, which can affect especially travellers using hire cars.

Hey!

Great article! I really enjoyed reading it, especially as I went to Palestine this summer!

However, a small update: around a year and a half ago the check-points around Nablus were opened, so the city is becoming more and more lively again and the economy is slowly improving.

I was in Nablus for the Guinness Book of World Records: The biggest Kanafe ever made!

It was an incredible experience!
I can only advise any and everyone to go to Palestine!
