I'm so disgusted with my home state.... why not post a big CLOSED sign at the border? Our Governor is an idiot who is only interested in Phoenix. If you read more about this the impact on the local level will be huge - many remote areas depend on the traffic to the parks for their economy. The parks weren't actually in the red - most were completely self-supporting and these cuts are just hacking away at anything to look like they are getting somewhere on the budget.
Way to go Jan.... cut things that bring money into the state... idiot!

How do they stop people from visiting? Do they waste money paying guards to stop people?

I sent some of the same questions to the AZ state parks board, and received a response that they will "mothball" the parks - this usually involves locking the gates and ceasing to maintain utilities, etc. As of Jan. 29, there were no plans to sell anything. People won't be able to visit the parks listed above unless they can work out an arrangement with the state or local governments.

What does "closing a park" actually mean? Does it just mean they'll stop doing maintenance and that people are not really meant to go there? Does it mean they'll have guards stopping people from going there? Does it mean the land will be sold off for other things?
