Loved the post. I have had to get used to celebrating Independence Day abroad as well.

Last year I was in Australia and watched it all pass me by, I think I was literally on a plane that day.

This year I was lucky to have a bit of connection with the expat world here in Florence and attended the Tuscan American Associations rendition of the USA holiday.

It was so great. There were tons of Italians, Americans and many other nationalities all sharing in a mix of "American" cuisine and Italian cuisine along with Italian music and American covers.

Really, I am so thankful to find groups that are not only willing to take the effort to put the party together abroad but also to members of all the communities that take the time to participate!

Our Italian friends were so happy to be included in the celebration and get a preview of the experience that one day they hope to see in the U.S.!

Did a quick Google search and I couldn't find you one...sorry! Have you checked meetup.com or couchsurfing.org for other Canadians near you? Maybe you can organize the party!

If you find one (or organize one), post it here. Hope you have a good Canada Day nonetheless. Cheers!

Yep! From Wikipedia: "The cocktail was invented by bartender Walter Chell at the Owl's Nest Bar in the Calgary Inn in Calgary, Alberta in 1969"

I don't think they sell Clamato juice anywhere else besides NA!

Are Caesars a Canadian thing? I had no idea.

I loved this article! It's good to know that expat or traveling Canadians can get a little love (and a little bison) on Canada Day. My most memorable July 1st abroad was with a pile of fellow Canadians at a karaoke parlour in South Korea, vowing to only sing songs by Canadian artists. It seemed like a good idea until the fourth Nickelback song...

I hope you find a good party in NYC!
