Agree with Margaret. If you have an extra day, definitely do Termas Colinas.

You stopped at Baños Morales? Too bad! You should've kept going! About 14 km of rough ride toward Argentina you come to Termas Colinas-- open air hot springs that gush out of the side of a mountain and spill from one pool into another until it reaches the 5th--and coolest (temperatures wise I mean) at the bottom. Lean back and let the hot water pour over your neck and shoulders and if you're lucky, watch a condor soar over head.

I'm also a big fan of Cajón de Maipo, and you can actually pedal out there pretty easily, out Vicuña McKenna to La Florida and just kind of hang a left, pass Las Vizcachas and there you are (insert a couple hours of pedal time). Ciruelillos (plum trees) are the first to bloom in the springtime, and add a gorgeous powdery pink to the right side of the river bank which is cultivated.

There's also an important spot on the way there where people often leave flowers for the five people killed in an attempt on Augusto Pinochet's life as he returned from Santiago to his house in El Melocotón (also across the river) in 1986, three years before the dictatorship ended. Details/video here: http://www.museodeprensa.cl/node/93 (in Spanish). Anyone know the exact km marker?

When I lived in Santiago, the Cajon del Maipo was my weekend escape! Thanks for taking me back.
