“Get your kicks on Route 66.” Or so the song goes. Throughout human history people have traveled the same routes over and over until they have become worn into trails, tracks, roads and eventually super-highways and high-speed rail lines. One only need to look at the arrow-straight “roads” of the Ancient Pueblo peoples of the American southwest to see that travel is hardwired into the human psyche.
