You hate your boss. You love bikes. It’s obvious, you need to open a bike shop, right?

Being your own boss can be sweet, and if done right, running your own business (especially one as cool as a bike shop) can be super-rewarding.

There are also some important factors to consider when starting a bike shop. Master mechanic and bike shop owner Dave Hartman has been wrenching on bikes for over twenty years. Matador caught up with him at his shop in Missoula, Montana for an interview about what he learned in the process of opening Hellgate Cyclery four years ago.
