WHAT/WHERE
Nomadic Matt takes us on a 24 km hike over the Tongariro Crossing in New Zealand, a region known for its stark, volcanic landscape.

COMMUNITY CONNECTION

The Tongariro Crossing, and its premiere attraction Mt. Ngauruhoe, became world-famous as the film location of Mt. Doom in the Lord of the Rings movies. Seeking out locations used in films can lead a traveler to some incredible adventures around the world, from the beautiful Naapali coastline in Kauai, Hawaii (used in Jurassic Park, to name one of many) to the gritty reality of Cape Town’s Langa district (District 9, Charlie Jade).
