The beautiful Kuroshio Sea – the main tank at the Okinawa Churaumi Aquarium
This is a clip that makes me happy. With the BP tragedy in the Gulf, this is a nice reminder of what people are trying to protect.
Maybe you’ve seen this, maybe not, but it WILL likely blow your mind. I remember when I first watched the video of the Kuroshio Sea (the 2nd largest aquarium tank in the world), I sat in silent, gaping-mouth awe.
The tank is SO big, it can hold 4 whale sharks. It’s about 100 feet wide and 80 feet long, and it has the largest viewing window in the world (approximately 26 feet high, 70 feet long and 2 feet thick.) It also hold about 2 million gallons of water (or 48,000 barrels for those of you in the oil industry.)
There’s something profoundly spiritual about seeing something this beautiful, about communing with the magical glory of ocean life — even from afar.
I’m sure the real thing is even more awe-inspiring, but hopefully this should hold you over until you buy a ticket to Okinawa.
Make sure to watch it full screen, and then sit back for the most relaxing 4 minutes you’ll ever experience in front of your computer.
