Matador Network is proud to announce that Liv Cycling has launched their latest brand video with Shannon Galpin, Matador Ambassador, and National Geographic ADvneturer of the Year. The video highlights her work in Afghanistan with the women’s cycling team, and gives a sneak peek of the feature length documentary she is producing with Let Media, called Afghan Cycles.
The film is still in production, with a 2016 premiere date. This short video includes never before seen footage of these women riding in Afghanistan, as well as Shannon’s story on becoming the first person to mountain bike in Afghanistan as a way to explore the country, and to challenge the gender barriers that prevents Afghan girls from riding bikes. Now we are seeing the first generation of girls and young women riding bikes as part of the women’s national cycling team, and are watching a revolution unfold as other young girls are learning to ride for the first time.
You can take part by joining Shannon and the Afghan team along with cyclists around the world this Saturday, August 30th, as part of the Global Solidarity Ride. Shannon created Global Solidarity Ride out of her original series of community bike rides, The Panjshir Tour, which started after she began mountain biking in Afghanistan in 2009. Now that Afghan girls are challenging gender barriers associated with mountain biking, the Solidarity Ride has expanded to over 70 rides in 13 countries, with communities riding bikes in solidarity with the Afghan women that dare to ride.
