S377A of Singapore’s Penal Code states that:
Any male person who, in public or private, commits, or abets the commission of, or procures or attempts to procure the commission by any male person of, any act of gross indecency with another male person, shall be punished with imprisonment for a term which may extend to 2 years.
Gary and Kenneth, a Singaporean gay couple together for 15 years, filed a constitutional challenge against Section 377A, which criminalises sex between gay men. On 9 April 2013, the High Court ruled against the couple and upheld the anti-gay law. Now, they are filing an appeal.
Gary and Kenneth have taken a brave step forward, and as a result have raised more than double the amount they were trying to raise to support their appeal, for a grand total of over $107,000. Anything on top of what they need to cover their legal expenses will be donated to the LGBTQ community.
