Beijing, China

Overview

Beijing has been the political and cultural center of China for centuries. For that reason, many travelers flock here to soak in the overflowing temples and gardens, palaces, ancient treasures, and public squares. Many find Beijing to be a rich and dynamic, if not overwhelming destination. Beijing itineraries include visits to the Forbidden City, Temple of Heaven and Earth, Tiananmen Square and Mao's Mausoleum, and sections of the Great Wall of China nearby. But here at Matador, we know that destinations like Beijing are more than just their big attractions. In fact, we've collected articles about biking, eating, avoiding tourist traps, and living there. In addition, the Matador community has contributed personal narratives and reflections on the city and photo essays of festivals and important sights. Have you taught English or studied abroad in Beijing? We welcome your stories.
