Edie Simms, a 102-year-old from South St. Louis, Missouri, was properly handcuffed and put in the back of a police cruiser. She couldn’t have been more psyched about the situation.
The police officers involved were helping her fulfill a bucket wish. In her 102 years on this planet, she had never been arrested and didn’t want to miss out on that experience.
Simms volunteers tirelessly at St. Louis’ Five Star Senior Center by donating handmade items to the residential center’s members, such as walker bags, eyeglass cases, pillows, and scarves. St. Louis police officers had heard off her unusual bucket list dream and offered to help her check it off her list. They gave her a ride to the senior citizen center in the back of a police cruiser.
Simms’ reaction was pure joy. Asked if she enjoyed her ride, Simms answered: “Oh yes, handcuffs and all.”
While passing a county police officer, Michael Howard, Executive Director Five Star Senior Center, recalled: “Edie held her hands up to show that she had the handcuffs on”.
As Simms said, “It’s a great world if you just open your eyes and look at it”. Edie Simms, you’re a legend.
