SELFIES ARE, more often than not, fun and harmless. However, there’s an appropriate time for everything in life, and taking pictures of yourself while flying an airplane is a dangerous idea.

For Amritpal Singh and his passenger Jatinder Singh, it proved fatal.

After an investigation that took almost one year, the National Transportation Safety Board revealed that self-photographs were the cause of the traggic accident that took place on May 31st, 2014. The distraction created by taking pictures, as well as the disorientation followed by the flash of his cellphone allegedly led Amritpal Singh to lose control of the aircraft.

Although it is not illegal for pilots of small airplanes like the one involved in this crash to take pictures, the possible consequences make this practice extremely unsafe.
