There’s no denying that there is a feud going on between Kanye West and Taylor Swift, but Swift’s acceptance speech after winning the 2016 Grammy Award for best album for 1989 was much more than an act of retaliation to add to their beef. It was a huge feminist moment.
“I want to say to all women out there that there are going to be people out there who will try to undercut your success, or take credit for your accomplishment, or your fame, but if you focus on the work, and you don’t let those people sidetrack you, one day you’ll get where you’re going, and you’ll look around and you will know that it was you, and the people who love you who put you there, and that will be the greatest feeling in the world.”
The images of her standing on stage surrounded by her team — all men — and her powerful speech prove how hard it is for a woman to reach the top, but Swift beat the odds thanks to hard work and the support of those who believe in her. Her success cannot be stolen from her.
