The Humor Research Lab (HuRL) at the University of Colorado Boulder has answered the question that Americans have been wondering for years: What’s the funniest city?

The answer is Chicago, thanks to its rich background in improv. The improv troupe Second City alone has produced a gigantic chunk of America’s top comedians, including Alan Arkin, Bill Murray, Harold Ramis, Joan Rivers, Julia Louis-Dreyfus, Chris Farley, Steve Carell, Stephen Colbert, Tina Fey, and Amy Poehler. The other cities on the list may surprise you, though — including how much lower New York City is than you would expect. Kudos to my current home of DC for its spot in fourth place.
