“I love you” sounds nice in every language.

I’M NOT SURE what’s more obnoxious: the endless images of flower bouquets adorned in pink and red littering my Facebook news feed, or all the anti-Valentine’s Day sentiment.

I, however, have chosen to put aside my bitterness for one day. This morning, my roommate Matt knocked on my bedroom door while I was still sleeping. When I opened it, he presented me with some roses and said, “Happy Valentine’s Day!” I was confused, thinking they were for his girlfriend.

Then, when I realized they were for me, I teared up. Just a little.

I’ve never received flowers for Valentine’s Day before. All mornings should begin with flowers.

I nearly hacked off my fingers with a knife while cutting the stems and trying to arrange the bouquet in a never-before-used vase, but damn, they make me smile. And this video makes me smile. Doesn’t “I love you” sound pretty in every language?

Happy Valentine’s Day, from Matador! And thanks, Memrise, for the language lesson.
