As a native French speaker, I thought the influence of my mother tongue on the English language was limited to words such “fiancé”, “rendezvous”, and “à la carte”. Little did I know that whole phrases have been borrowed from the French, and secretly hidden in the English language.

The connection is not always obvious since the spelling and pronunciation of these phrases have been altered over the years, but with a little detailed explanation, you can’t deny it!
