I MOVED TO Long Island out of necessity, but each time I think about moving back to NYC, I remember how much it sucked to go apartment hunting. It’s amazing to me how anyone can afford to even share an apartment in the city these days, with rents almost triple what I paid while living in Prague. The sad part is that the rents keep rising, but the cost of living has plateaued — suddenly it’s a struggle to live on a $40,000 salary, when ten years ago, it was average.
This infographic is pretty depressing, but at the same time, I know nothing is going to change. NYC is still going to be one of the most expensive cities in the USA to live in, but at the same time, people aren’t going to stop living here.
