In this episode of MTV’s Decoded, Franchesca Ramsey explains why saying “I don’t see race” does not help in solving the race problems of our country, and actually may end up doing more harm than good. She uses multiple studies of implicit bias to show how people of color are still unfairly treated in job interviews and housing decisions, often by people whose intentions were to be “colorblind”. Her examples prove that even when we don’t want to see race, we’re still often unconsciously making decisions based on it.
