With Trump’s unwillingness to accept the results of this election, it’s noteworthy to go back in time and see how other presidential candidates have handled defeat. In 1993, after losing the presidential election to Bill Clinton, George H.W. Bush left Clinton a handwritten letter in the Oval Office of the White House saying:

“Your success is now our country’s success. I’m rooting hard for you.”
