In the eyes of many of us, a “real man” needs to be physically and emotionally strong, authoritative, sexually active, financially successful, etc.

Our narrow definition of masculinity not only threatens the well-being of men who can’t achieve these standards, but also the daily lives of those who interact with men.

Consider these comments: “Don’t be a pussy”, “you throw like a girl”, “you’re so sensitive for a guy”. They all aim to be demeaning towards men by giving the impression that being a woman is a bad thing, because they are weak, emotionally-driven beings that need to be dominated socially and sexually by “real males”.

Such comments are part of the root problems of gender inequality. Don’t be a sexist A-hole, stop saying them.
