FANS OF Arrested Development who’ve seen season 4 (Michael Bluth trading in his staircase truck for a streetview car with a 360-degree camera sticking out of the roof) might find this familiar.

Google is opening up their Trekker backpacking campaign (used to capture views their cars can’t reach) to the general public, accepting applicants to lug around their ridiculous looking pack around the world. Previously only available to Google staff and select third-party orgs, anyone can apply, as long as “you represent an organization such as a tourism board, non-profit, government agency, university or research group that would like to take photos with the Trekker for future inclusion on Google Maps.”

Which begs the question: Would you trek the world to do Google’s bidding?

Well…would you?
