I cannot count the number of times I have found myself in front of a Windows 7 or Vista machine and not been able to open .DNG, .CR2 or .NEF files. Adding the codecs required to view and edit them to Windows would be such an easy thing to do.
Which someone at Microsoft may have recently realised. The company has now released a codec pack for Win 7/Vista that allows you to see your RAW thumbnails directly in explorer by default. I think an angel just started weeping tears of joy somewhere.
While it still may not help you if you find yourself using a strange PC in a Kitgum internet cafe, and it definitely won’t help you if you are a Windows XP user, I will take what I can get.
