Not only is Skype great for keeping in touch with family, friends, and colleagues, it’s responsible for the world’s first “digital gay wedding.” This week, a Texas couple tied the knot in a Dallas hotel, with an officiant administering vows from Washington D.C., where same-sex marriage is legal.
The couple told the Dallas Voice that the reason behind their e-marriage was ensure that their closest family and friends would be able to be present for their union — something that would not have been possible had they been forced to travel to a state where they could legally marry.
The Dallas Voice adds:
While the couple has no intention of using their case to challenge Texas’ bans on same-sex marriage, Reed said they want to make it more convenient and less expensive for same-sex couples to legally wed.
