Random Acts of Culture is a three-year project sponsored by the Knight Arts that is planning 1000 random acts of culture: short, spontaneous bursts of classical music, theater, dance and opera.

According to their website, Knight Arts is a foundation that “invests in artistic excellence, funding arts projects that engage the Knight resident communities in collective cultural experience.” The communities on the list are: Akron, Charlotte, Detroit, Macon, Miami, Philadelphia, San José, and St. Paul.

Currently on #39 (as of November 4, 2010), they have so far featured things like a jazz quartet in a mall in Miami and 650 singers from the Opera Company of Philadelphia bursting into Handel’s Hallelujah Chorus in the middle of a local Macy’s.
