May 21 is a Saturday but some Christians believe it is also the date that God will end the world, calling the faithful home to heaven. NPR talks to several people busy preparing for the much heralded End of The World, many of whom cannot envision a future beyond the 21st of May including one couple who plans to spend every last penny they have before the apparent looming demise

Harold Egbert Camping is the man credited for the May 21st prediction. He is the president of Family Radio. He had previously predicted that the Rapture would occur in September 1994.
