The Lofoten islands, located in Norway, are home to some of the most stunning sunsets you will ever experience, especially during the summer when you can experience the beauty of the midnight sun. For those who have never seen the midnight sun, it can be difficult to wrap your head around the concept of a sun that never actually sets, leaving the sky aglow all through the night. Those who have seen it, however, understand the otherworldly beauty of this phenomenon. From deep pinks and purples to a vibrant array of oranges, these sunsets alone are worth a trip to Norway’s Lofoten Islands.

One of the most remarkable features of an evening spent on the Lofoten Islands is the possibility of catching a glimpse of both the Northern Lights and midnight sun at once. During certain times of year, visitors can witness an amazing phenomenon called “polar twilight,” where day and night blend together in shades of pink, purple, orange and yellow as the sun lingers just below the horizon. It’s truly an unforgettable experience.

The jagged peaks rise up from the horizon as far as the eye can see, creating an awe-inspiring sight. These mountains are so visually impressive that they were used as a filming location for Game Of Thrones. Couple these majestic mountains with the crystal clear waters below and you have yourself one of nature’s greatest masterpieces. Every evening during summer months, these spectacular sights can be seen in their full glory just before sundown when the sky turns a deep orange hue and casts its eerie (yet warm) light across the landscape.

The best part about watching a Lofoten Islands sunset is that it’s usually done in peaceful solitude without any crowds or loud noise to disturb you. It’s like something from another world entirely. You may, however, have to contend with some puffins, who famously roam the northerly islands — but something tells us you won’t mind.
