Matador is proud to feature the work of the Modern Gypsies. Stay tuned for more episodes.

AFTER TAKING first place in ABC’s 2011 reality adventure show Expedition Impossible, the three travelers who make up the Modern Gypsies — Eric Bach, Taylor Filasky, and John Post — took off for Ecuador on a new project called Compassionate Adventure. Mission #1: Help construct a clean-water well in the Chimborazo province, alongside the organization Free the Children. Mission #2: Attempt the summit of the 19,347ft Cotopaxi, one of the highest active volcanoes in the world.

Here in episode 1, the Gypsies get a whirlwind tour of the country — motorbikes, jungle trekking, bikes, monkeys, masticated taro root, and a visit to a shaman for a quite thorough, semi-nude blessing in preparation for the climb. Stay tuned in the coming days as Matador publishes the additional episodes of the Modern Gypsies’ Compassionate Adventure Ecuador.
