IT’S HARD to believe it’s been 10 years since the first Planet Earth series, narrated by the inimitable David Attenborough, was released. At the time it was unbelievable the images they captured and how it was edited — it was the first documentary to be filmed in high definition (HD) and it won four Emmys. It still stands up today. 10 years on there have been some significant advances in technology which the new Planet Earth is taking advantage of. The use of drones will bring images previously impossible to capture, and the new series is shot in ultra high definition (UHD), or 4K as you may know it.

It’s set to be broadcast in the UK in November. I’m going to start popping my popcorn.
