ROLLER COASTERS DON’T NEED MODIFICATIONS in order to be scary. Falling from the sky on a rickety pile of metal is terrifying enough as it is. But Six Flags in Maryland has decided to up the ante. They’ve invented a Virtual Reality roller coaster.
Ben Popper of the Verge went to the theme park to learn about the new Superman-themed coaster, and found that, aside from being a pretty great way to induce vomiting, it was terrifying and awesome. Because users are wearing a VR mask, they can’t see when they reach the top of the coaster, and instead are presented with visions of falling from the sky and eventually being saved by Superman. This is the future. Give it a watch.
