BEITAR JERUSALEM is one of the most popular soccer teams in Israel, and its fans largely share far-right ideals. In 2012 the team recruited two Muslim players from Chechnya — Zaur Sadayev and Gabriel Kadiev — which resulted in racist chants and actions by its supporters. Filmmaker Maya Zinshtein, an Israeli journalist originally from Russia, followed the story and produced her first feature length film titled Forever Pure. It made its debut at the 2016 Toronto Film Festival on September 10. Watch the teaser above to see the team’s owner, A. Gaydamak, explain why they decided to make this move.
