A Pegasus Airline plane carrying 168 passengers from Ankara skidded off the runway at the Trabzon airport in Turkey on Saturday. The Boeing 737-800 ended up nose down on a cliff overlooking the Black Sea. While no one was seriously hurt, videos from inside the plane and interviews with passengers show that there was panic onboard before the evacuation: “We tilted to the side, the front was down while the plane’s rear was up. There was panic, people shouting, screaming,” passenger Fatma Gordu told state-run news agency Anadolu.
Photos taken on Sunday morning revealed a terrifying sight: the airplane was entirely off the runway, mere yards above the water’s surface. The cause of the accident has not been identified, but local officials have said that an investigation is ongoing.
