@katieaiton It’s great to meet up with interesting people, that share a passion for travel and photography, so thanks for the friendship. I just got back from Bali actually – stopped there on the way to and on the way back from Burma – went over to Rangoon for a trip via KL – lots of fun ;)

Thanks for the add, @katieaiton! Your ”basic information” doesn’t seem quite so ”basic,” but I find it interesting nonetheless and your work sounds compelling. I hope you keep the updates coming!

I grew up in the rural country side of The Scottish Borders.

Growing up I was fortunate to travel endlessly with my family.

At the age of fifteen, I took my first lone trip round the world. During this journey I faced a magnitude of internal questions concerning differing cultures, races, politics and social behaviour.

I returned to Edinburgh and commenced undergraduate and masters in Anthropology and Development - not Law - to my parent dismay!

My fieldwork has been largely based in Cambodia, analysing concepts such as Childhood and Volunteer Tourism. I have had a love affair with the country ever since.
I now return every six months to listen to and write stories and see my Cambodian family.
My professional work has included documenting and translating female experience of violence during and after the years of Pol Pot's regime.
I have also worked with forensic anthropologist conducting rituals and documents reburials of unidentified remains in Cambodia and the neighbouring bordering countries. My work in Cambodia took me further to collaborate on a more business level with local N.G.Os and the UN.

In 2011 I was awarded a peace scholarship to studying a Masters in Peace and Conflict Studies at the University of Sydney. During this degree I focused my energy on the power of the written word and how the media can be used as a tool for peace building and conflict resolution.

My journey from Australia has now brought me (via various other destinations) to New York, where I hope to commence my professional career using my in writing and interactive media.
Through this medium I hope to focus on creative ways we can move away from common representations/misrepresentations of cultures, people and conflict with broader aim of avoiding future conflict.

Crazy for any sports - surfing, diving, sailing, fishing, rock climbing, running, building tree houses ;-)
