I just finished watching the newer Battlestar Galactica for the second time now.
Both times the last few episodes had a big impact on me. This time especially since I’ll be leaving soon and also because I wrote this zombie post recently.
In the post I ranted a bit about technology and me not having a smart phone. I talked about how frustrated life is when you’re living it with people who spend most of their time looking down.
This brings me to this Battlestar Galactica quote, “…our science charges ahead, our souls… lag behind.”
This sums up how I feel most often about our technology.
More importantly, this sums up my reason for travel and why I do it.
Travel goes beyond the major sights and late night drinks. Travel goes beyond the white sandy beaches or the resorts with spas enjoying the sunset.
At least for me it does.
Exploring new places holds a pulse within me.
When I’m traveling, my heart makes connections with the people. Sometimes the locals, sometimes the travelers. Often both.
When I’m on the move my heart bends, twists and starts moving with the drummer of a different beat.
I have difficulty understanding why people can’t/won’t experience new things.
I mean I understand it.
It’s scary, it’s frightening, we don’t know if we’ll enjoy it whatever “it” may be.
I just don’t understand how we can allow ourselves to live with those thoughts and with that fear controlling who we are and how we perceive life.
When I travel I want to break those barriers.
My truths and beliefs become simply that. My OWN truths and beliefs.
FACTS that I may have KNOWN are no longer facts but simply ideas that I choose to believe.
Travel questions our integrity, our very fiber of being.
And when we, as travelers, make the conscious choice to let go and allow for life and people to have an impact on our being…something happens.
We allow ourselves to evolve.
We can become something greater than who we are/were.
We give ourselves permission to…
