Hawaii comprises four major islands (Kauai, Oahu, Hawaii, Maui) and a number of smaller or less populated islands (Molokai, Lanai, Niihau, Kahoolawe), and is among the most isolated land masses on earth, an isolation which has resulted in the evolution of thousands of endemic species of flora and fauna and a mind-blowing landscape. Below is a list of the best places to get your adventure on around the islands.

Honopu ArchWaimea, United StatesA group of us did a 4 day kayak adventure from the north shore of kauai to the west side. We slept on the beaches at Kalalau and Miloli’i! It was such an amazing adventure. This is the waterfall at Honopu, the beach up from Kalalau that doesn’t allow any crafts on the beach so you have to swim there.
Nāpali Coast State Wilderness Park
Kalalau TrailKapaa, United StatesOne of the most beautiful treks on the islands & perhaps the world over. Amazing Pacific Ocean panoramic views around every valley corner. Go the full 11 miles or cut the hike in-half & tent up @ mile 6. A true delight!
Surf Hanalei Bay
Spouting Horn Park
Sleeping Giant Trail Head
Laniakea BeachHaleiwa, United StatesSearching for waves. Lani’s looks good – fast and barreling. Only downside: it’s crowded today! Better during midweek. #surfing #thesearch #crowded #northshore #lanis
Waimea Bay Beach Park
Waimea Bay Beach ParkHaleiwa, United StatesThe Rock at Waimea Bay is the perfect way to get your blood flowing! It’s perfect when the ocean in calm, however beware in the winter months as the waves in the bay can reach heights of 60ft #cliffjumping
Waipio ValleyWaipahu, United StatesThe black sand beaches of Waipio valley were so beautiful, as are the waterfalls past the road on the back side of the valley! Here I am stopping for a quick drink 😜 #hiking
Kahana Bay Beach Park
Malaekahana Beach Campground
Papakolea Green Sand Beach
South Point Cliff Dive
South Point Cliff DiveNaalehu, United StatesAfter jumping off the cliffs at South Point on the Big Island, the southernmost point of the US aka the “End of the World” we explored some of the bluest water I’d ever seen! The visibility was insane! I can’t wait to go back there! #cliffjumping #snorkeling
Paradise helicopersMountain View, United StatesI don’t normally splurge on expensive travel activities but we got an amazing deal on a helicopter ride around the whole island of Hawaii, so I couldn’t turn it down! So glad I did it, what a way to see the Big Island!! #helicopter
Kalapana State Wayside Park
Kalapana State Wayside ParkPāhoa, United StatesUnreal experience to watch the lava flow off the cliff and into the ocean. Conditions and exact location of the flow are constantly changing but just head to the end of the road from Pahoa towards Kalapana and you can’t miss it. We rented bikes for the 4-5 mile ride in (9 miles round trip) to make it a bit quicker but plenty of people hike in along the road. #hawaii #lava
Kua BayKailua-Kona, United StatesOne of the best beaches on the Kona coast. Also one of the busiest so definitely go early. Some great body surfing on offer during the higher tides and at low tide there was a family of honu (green sea turtles) in the shallows. Water clarity was amazing which made for some great images. #hawaii
