Humanitarian work abroad should be about implementing real, needed change for the local population, not to make you look good on Instagram.
This video from SAIH Norway illustrates the problem with those who volunteer abroad in the hopes of “fixing” the community they are working in without knowing much about its traditions, issues, lifestyle, needs, etc.
The “great western saviours” should always thrive to leave a positive impact on a population that can now become self-sustained thanks to their help. Force-feeding them processed food should have no part in it.
