Rush Maltz has run charters out of The Florida Keys for over two decades, born and raised in these waters. But growing up somewhere and knowing everything about it aren’t the same thing. This documentary short follows him through Key Largo, Islamorada, Marathon, The Lower Keys, and even his home of Key West where the locals who never left teach him what he missed.
EPISODE #1
Key Largo and Marathon
In Episode 1, Rush heads to Key Largo, home of the famous Christ of the Deep dive site. An offshore guy at heart, he gets out of his element by fly fishing before winding down at the Caribbean Club, the oldest bar in the Upper Keys. His final stop is Pigeon Key, Marathon’s best-kept secret.
EPISODE #2
The Lower Keys and Islamorada
Rush continues south where he tries his hand at fishing the depths of the Bahia Honda Channel. Swapping the rod for the spear, he follows the world champion lionfish huntress even deeper, learning why there’s no limit on fishing these invasive species.
EPISODE #3
Key West
Rush completes his journey in Key West by connecting with Junkanoo culture in Bahama Village and hearing from local musicians that set the city’s soundtrack. Finding himself with a rare day off, it’s not long before he’s back out at sea doing what he does best in the place he feels most at home.
