Benvenuto a San Marino! Ah yes, the Most Serene Republic of San Marino. This tiny country is situated completely within Italy — one of only three countries in the world to be completely surrounded by another country — and it’s also one of the world’s oldest republics. We hung out with local guide Leonardo, who taught us about the country’s patron saint (Saint Marinus) who founded San Marino all the way back in 301 A.D.! After a key wardrobe change, I had the chance to go up in the parliament tower and stand on the balcony, something most tourists aren’t allowed to do. My guess is that I might be the first black man up there. Representation! We also explored the Guaita Tower, constructed back in the 13th century. Thank you San Marino! We enjoyed la dolce vita here.
