There are few animals as beloved around the world as the elephant. These big, intelligent, and loving animals are a huge draw to tourists just looking for a quick hug and a “trunk-shake”. Unfortunately, there is a dark side to Thailand’s massive elephant tourism industry. As Youtuber Christian Leblanc discovered while traveling, many elephants suffer the horrifying “Elephant Crush” process before they are forced to perform in front of tourists. Thankfully, there are people like Sangduen Chailert and the Elephant Nature Park, who rescue circus elephants and set an example for other caretakers to follow.
