This Photography Competition Proves That All the Gear You Need on Your Travels Is Your Phone

IF YOU HAVE TRAVELED THE WORLD with photography gear, you know how heavy and cumbersome it can get. Not only do your tripod, lenses, and spare batteries take a huge amount of space in your bags, but they are also so fragile and expensive that they require a lot of care and attention. To top it all, carrying them around all day long when you’re exploring is a shoulder-killer and simply a major hassle.

Professional photographers may not have the choice to haul all their gear, but amateurs do, and probably should. After all, have you seen what one can do with a phone these days?

The iPhone Photography Awards (IPPAWARDS) honours the work of professional and amateur photographers whose images have been taken on an iPhone, iPod, or iPad and have not been altered by any desktop image processing program such as Photoshop. The images rewarded are stunning.
