Growing up on a secluded farm in a rural Bushveld community in South Africa, Matthys had, since an early age, a love for nature and wildlife. It is this love for nature that awakened in him a lust for travel. Upon finishing school, he packed a small bag and set off for the UK, where, for two years, Matthys traveled and worked as a professional chef, touring the countryside. After this initial introduction to travel, he since lived, worked and traveled in Australia, where he also attained a Bachelor of Professional Writing and Publishing from NMIT, Melbourne. Ever growing, Matthys’s passion for travel, writing, and cooking has taken him on many a rural and beaten track across the globe.
