8 Spots That Prove Bali Is as Gorgeous as You Think It Is
1. Tegenungan Waterfall
Tegenungan Waterfall
Kemenuh, Indonesia
Scenic waterfall about 30 min out of Ubud. You can jump, splash or take photos. Go early in the morning to avoid the crowd. Even if you get lost on the winding road and get there by 2pm, it’s not that bad – everyone is willing to share the beauty of this spot and move over so you can strike a pose. Tickets are 2,000idr per person ($1,50). #hiking #nature
2. Sacred Monkey Forest Sanctuary
Sacred Monkey Forest Sanctuary
Ubud, Indonesia
Definitely cool to see, especially if you’re a monkey fan. BUT whatever you do, do not bring anything edible with you. I rolled up with a bag of fruit, not realizing I was at the sanctuary, so I immediately got attached and screamed like a total tourist. Don’t be that person. Also, take off jewelry, sunglasses, watches and hold on tight to purses and cameras. #hiking #nature #animals
3. Café Pomegranate
Café Pomegranate
Ubud, Indonesia
Great views and awesome, peaceful atmosphere amid the fields, up on top of a hill in Ubud. To be honest, don’t go there for the food. It’s nothing special and overpriced. I got an iced coffee to enjoy the views on the cheap. It’s located in an area of the town high up, secluded from the rest with a few yoga spots and artisan shops around. #coffee #free-wifi #hiking
4. Ceking Rice Terrace
Ceking Rice Terrace
Tegallalang, Indonesia
A vibrantly-green, polished rice terrace close to Ubud. If you’ve come to Bali and don’t stop by here, you’ve just wasted a good 20 hours of your life flying here. This one is a must. Come around sunrise or sunset to catch the best light for photos. Around halfway through your walk in the terrace, you’ll see someone asking for donations. Travelers usually leave a coin of whatever currency they carry. #free #hiking
5. Tanah Lot
Tanah Lot
Beraban, Indonesia
Tanah Lot, the temple in the wager is a must-see. Sunsets are gorgeous but there is a swarm of people at that time. Foreigners aren’t allowed to go up to the top of the rock, so we can only watch from a distance. Nonetheless, it’s good for photography and it offers a nice ground for spiritual contemplation. The temple area is quite large and surrounded by warungs and souvenir shops on the outside. #history #statue
6. Echo beach
Echo beach
Canggu, Indonesia
Awesome beach, perfect for tanning and splashing around. Rent chairs or bring a towel and enjoy a cold Bantang from the warungs that line the beach. Stick around for the sunset, it’s gorgeous in pink, gold and blue. You can dine at the beach warungs as well and stay to party later on. #food #beach #dancing
7. Uluwatu Surf Villas
Uluwatu Surf Villas
Pecatu, Indonesia
Go to the little opening to Uluwatu beach at the heart of Uluwatu villas. I got there at 6am and had the whole scenery to myself- lush greenery, tall rocks, soft sunrise; the only people around are the few earlybird surfers catching the first waves of the day. I don’t surf, but if I did this would be an absolute paradise. #beach #surf
8. Uluwatu Temple
Uluwatu Temple
Pecatu, Indonesia
Absolutely gorgeous place; tall rocks and a temple surrounded by blue waters and purple trees. There are little trails within the property where you see a dozen monkeys playing. Be careful with those, don’t shoot too many photos around them as they may get upset. Also, don’t bring in sunglasses and big jewelry because the monkeys may snag that. Otherwise, go as early as possible (they let us in around 7:15) to beat the crowd. Entrance is 30,000 IDR which is $2,20 usd #nature #view #outdoors #temple
