I REMEMBER THE FIRST TIME I encountered a squat toilet on my travels. I stared at it for a minute, tried to figure it out, and then said, “No, I’ll hold it.” But then the next toilet was a squat toilet. And the next. Eventually, I had to relearn a skill I thought I’d had taken care of at the age of two.
