The house itself is a masterpiece in open-concept minimalist design. There is literally no front door, the entrance leads you straight into the main pool and patio area. The living room blurs the line between inside and out, as floor-to-ceiling windows open up completely to the surrounding landscape. The kitchen is fully equipped with everything you could possibly need, and outside you’ll find a gas BBQ and dining area. Valle de Guadalupe can get quite chilly in evenings, especially in the winter months, but the cozy fireplace and hot tub are sure to keep you warm.

On the opposite side of the house, four bedrooms each come with their own ensuite bathroom. There are six beds in total which can accommodate up to ten guests. The master bedroom mirrors the living room’s indoor-outdoor feel, with floor-to-ceiling windows that open fully to the vineyard views. Whether you’re coming as a family or a group of friends, there’s more than enough room for everyone to spread out and feel at home.

Beyond the pool area, the property has plenty to keep everyone entertained, including a games room with ping pong and a selection of board games. On the second floor there is even an artist studio with a piano and a curated collection of books. A distinctive rock motif runs throughout the property, from the large carved rock sculptures scattered across the grounds to the rugged stone walls that give the entire place an earthy feel. LAR truly feels like a private escape. There is so much open space around that the outside world fades away.

Wine tasting is, unsurprisingly, the main event here. Along the Ruta de Vino, or wine route, you’ll come across over 100 wineries, many of which offer tastings, cellar tours, and beautiful outdoor spaces to enjoy a glass while taking in the vineyard views. There’s no shortage of great places to eat either, from Michelin-starred restaurants to casual open-air spots serving fresh, local cuisine. If you are coming during the week, just be sure to check the opening hours of businesses, as many do close Monday to Wednesday. For a change of scenery, the coastal city of Ensenada is just 45 minutes away, where you’ll find fresh seafood and ocean views.

From Southern California, Valle de Guadalupe makes for a very accessible weekend trip. The drive from San Diego takes around two to three hours, depending on traffic and border wait times. The closest airport is Tijuana International Airport, which is about an hour and a half to two hours away. Having your own vehicle, or renting one, is strongly recommended, as it’s the easiest way to explore the valley as public transportation is limited. For the drive itself, consider taking the coastal highway (Mexico 1) one way and the inland Ruta del Vino (Highway 3) the other – both routes are incredibly scenic and will give you a completely different look of the landscape. The property is located within a gated community, just a short drive from the town center.
