Mexico City Epic Stays

Airbnb is offering soccer fans a rare chance to spend the night inside Mexico City Stadium ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup, pairing an overnight stay in pitch-side suites with tickets to the tournament’s opening match on June 11, the company announced Tuesday. The promotion centers on Mexican soccer legend Hugo Sánchez, who will host the experience for one group of four guests at the newly renovated venue on April 5 and 6.

“Mexico City Stadium is the heart of football in Mexico and the stage for some of the most important moments of my career,” Sánchez said in the announcement. “It is a place that commands respect, inspires and safeguards unforgettable stories.”

The stay is part of Airbnb’s push to tie its platform more closely to major live events, and comes as Mexico City prepares to play a central role in the 2026 World Cup. According to the company, guests will be given access to two private suites overlooking the field in what Airbnb described as the first overnight stay of its kind inside the stadium.

The experience begins with a behind-the-scenes tour of the stadium led by Sánchez, one of the most decorated players in Mexican soccer history. Guests will also spend time in a fan area called “La Tribuna de Hugol,” where they can practice bicycle kicks, play foosball and soccer video games, and hear stories from Sánchez about his career and the stadium’s place in Mexican soccer culture. Afterward, they will check into VIP suites along the pitch.

Airbnb said the package also includes meals prepared by a private chef using Mexican flavors, plus an activity in which guests can personalize soccer gear with an Airbnb experience host before checkout. The biggest draw, however, may be what comes after the overnight stay: tickets to return to Mexico City Stadium for the opening match of the 2026 FIFA World Cup. Airbnb said those tickets are available only through this promotion.

“They won’t just see it from the stands: they will inhabit it, feel it and wake up in the same place where memorable chapters of our sport have been written,” Sánchez said. “I was fortunate enough to experience unforgettable nights here; now it will be the fans’ turn to create their own story.”

Requests to book open March 23 at 11 AM CST through Airbnb’s listing for the experience. The stay itself is free, and includes breakfast, lunch, and dinner, though transportation to the stadium and to the World Cup match is not included. Airbnb said booking requests will be handled on a first-come, first-served basis, with one group selected for the overnight stay.

The offer reflects a broader strategy by travel companies to use access — rather than standard lodging alone — to attract travelers around global events. For Airbnb, the Mexico City Stadium promotion turns a host city venue into both accommodation and spectacle, while giving fans a tightly packaged route into one of the most in-demand matches of the 2026 tournament.
