THIS FASCINATING world map created by Maximilian Dörrbecker shows the geographical distribution of the writing systems still in use today. So as to better visualize them, the word “Wikipedia” has been transcribed in every writing system.

Although most of us know about the Greek and the Cyrillic alphabets, I don’t think the beautiful Georgian script and the surprising Inuktitut writing system are quite as well-known. I personally had no idea of what the writing system in Mongolia looked like and I certainly did not expect it to be written in columns.
