Airbnb Data Shows Strong Interest in World Cup Cities - Yet Incredible Properties Remain Bookable

Mexico City Dallas-Fort Worth Miami Toronto Sporting Events Epic Stays
by Matador Creators Mar 11, 2026

The 2026 FIFA World Cup is approaching fast, and travelers from around the world are finalizing plans. Airbnb has reported a 336 percent increase in searches for World Cup host cities, and Airbnb hosts in those cities are responding to meet the demand. With matches spread across multiple cities in the United States, Canada, and Mexico, many fans are planning entire trips around the tournament and building itineraries that allow time to explore their host city. In many cases, they’re even day-tripping or traveling to nearby hot spots to extend their travels as well. Tickets are still available, and Airbnb says the surge in early planning is already clear on its platform, with searches for host cities jumping 336 percent as fans look for places to stay close to stadiums, nightlife districts, and major attractions.

“The FIFA World Cup has always been one of the most social sporting events in the world, and we’re already seeing that reflected in how people are planning their trips on Airbnb,” an Airbnb spokesperson told Matador.

Airbnb’s data shows that people aren’t traveling to matches alone. Larger group searches are rising across host cities, with travelers looking for apartments, houses, and multi-bedroom rentals where several people can stay together.

“Families and groups account for more than half of bookings so far, with many travelers choosing larger homes where they can stay together and turn match days into shared experiences,” the spokesperson said.

Notably, international fans of football-crazed countries are booking up short-term rentals in droves.

“We’re also seeing strong interest from international fans, particularly from countries like the UK, France, Germany, Brazil and Argentina, many of whom are using the tournament as a starting point to explore more of North America beyond the host cities,” the spokesperson said.

Despite the increased demand, Airbnb rentals are still available in convenient locations near each of the World Cup stadiums. These include some pretty incredible properties, from historic homes to apartments within walking distance of the stadium. Check out some of the coolest rentals on offer.

Set on the ninth floor of a residential building, this apartment places you between Roma Norte and Condesa — two neighborhoods that see plenty of World Cup visitors thanks to their restaurants, bars, galleries, and nightlife. From here, you can walk to Parque México and the broad avenues of Paseo de la Reforma, while Chapultepec Park is also close by for museums and green space. Estadio Azteca, the stadium hosting World Cup matches in Mexico City, is about a 25–35 minute drive depending on traffic, so it works well as a base if you want to stay in one of the city’s most active areas and travel to the games by Uber.

The apartment itself looks out over the city through floor-to-ceiling windows, bringing in wide views from the living space. It’s also a lived-in home — the host notes that clothing and personal items remain in the closet — so the setup feels more like staying in someone’s apartment than a dedicated rental. One of the highlights is access to the building’s roof garden on the 19th floor, where lawn chairs and umbrellas are set up for relaxing while looking across the southern stretch of Mexico City’s skyline. It’s the kind of spot that works well after a long day exploring Roma and Condesa or returning from a match across town.

This small Miami setup works well if you want something private while still having a place to park and move around the city. You arrive through a gated driveway and check yourself in — either through the SmartLife app or with a remote and key if you’d rather skip the tech. Once the gate opens, your parking spot is on the right side of the driveway, and the tiny house sits with its own entrance, patio, and fenced backyard. It’s a self-contained setup where you control access through your phone or a code, and the only shared element is the driveway itself.

The place comes with a few perks that stand out for a stay this size. There’s a hot tub waiting in the backyard, a 55-inch HD smart TV, air conditioning and heat, and a dedicated workspace if you’re in Miami for work rather than beach time. A washer and dryer are available onsite, and parking is free — which also includes access to a Tesla Model Y during your stay. You can open the gate, park, and charge the car through the same app used for entry, and the cleaning fee even covers cleaning the vehicle. Between the private patio, gated parking, and the included car, the setup feels more like a compact base camp for exploring Miami than a typical short-term rental.

Staying here puts you close to Estadio Monterrey, which will host World Cup matches and major events in the city.  The apartment sits in Guadalupe, a district that keeps you close to the stadium area without needing to navigate long trips across Monterrey on match days.

The layout works well for a small group traveling together for the tournament. The main bedroom has a double bed, while the second bedroom features a bunk bed with two twin beds, and there’s also a sofa bed in the living room. The standard rate covers up to five people, with additional guests costing extra per night. Street parking is available if you’re driving, though many visitors will likely rely on short rides to the stadium — a major advantage during the World Cup when traffic and parking near Estadio BBVA tend to fill up quickly.

Right at King and Spadina, this condo places you in the middle of Toronto’s Entertainment District — a neighborhood packed with restaurants, theaters, and late-night spots. From here, you’re about a 20-minute commute to the stadium hosting FIFA World Cup matches, making it a convenient base if you’re planning to head to games while staying close to downtown. On days without matches, some of the city’s biggest landmarks are a short walk away, including Rogers Centre (eight minutes), the Metro Toronto Convention Centre and CN Tower (about 10 minutes), and the TIFF Lightbox just three minutes down the street.

The condo itself works well for a couple or a small group traveling for the tournament. A plush queen bed anchors the sleeping setup, with a single sleeper accommodating a third person. Despite being surrounded by King Street’s busy stretch of pubs, clubs, and restaurants, the unit is set up as a quieter place to return to after a night out or a long day exploring the city. With transit nearby and many of Toronto’s biggest attractions within walking distance, you can move between World Cup events, nightlife, and sightseeing without needing a car.

Just north of Historic Downtown McKinney, this cottage puts you within walking distance of the town square’s restaurants, shops, and live music spots while still offering a quieter place to return at the end of the day. If you’re in town for the FIFA World Cup matches at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, the drive typically runs about 45–55 minutes depending on traffic — making McKinney a calmer base outside the busier Dallas–Arlington corridor. The surrounding area leans into small-town Texas charm, with historic buildings, patios, and local cafés clustered around the square a few minutes away.

The house draws heavily on its older details, with original shiplap walls, hardwood floors, and handblown windows that bring in a lot of natural light. The kitchen doubles as a coffee bar and beverage station for casual meals or morning espresso, while a dedicated workspace and washer add practical touches if you’re staying for several days of matches. Out back, the yard is set up as a gathering spot with a fire pit and seating where you can wind down after exploring the area or making the trip back from the stadium. The overall setup works well for travelers who want something more residential — a historic Texas cottage rather than a typical hotel stay — while still keeping Dallas-area World Cup events within reach.
